Hi I am new on here and need some advice.

I am a UK Citizen and have recently obtained a BSc Computer Science degree in the UK.

I am working in Toronto as a help desk technician which falls under the User Support Technicians - 2282 in the NOC classification.

I am currently on a Student Open Work Authorisation Visa through Bunac, which is valid for a year, this expires in July 09.

I have taken the Skilled Worker Self-Assessment and at present i score 61, which is below the 67 passmark, although once I have completed a years work experience in canada (July 09) i will score 81.

If i apply once i have the 81 points will i be able to stay in canada with authorisation to work, while the perminant residency is processed?

If not What other options are avalible to me.

Any assistance would be greatly appresiated.

J

No, you can not get an authorization to work just because you applied for PR. You can work as long as your Bunac is valid. If you do not already have PR at that point, you can attempt to get a regular work permit. Your employer would have to apply for a labour market opinion and if that goes through, you should be able to get a work permit. You should start looking into that at least a couple of months before your Bunac expires because getting the LMO can take some time. If your employer is refused an LMO, you can try to look for a job at a company that already has open LMO's. It would still take a couple of weeks for them to put your name on it. If your Bunac expires and you have nothing but still want to stay, you would have to apply to change your conditions to visitor status. It would take 2-3 months to even get an answer and in the meantime you have implied visitor status. Visitor status does not allow you to work but you could still continue to look for an employer with open LMO's.
