Hi Friends!

Does anyone have any idea whether PR Holders (landed immigrants) get any bank loans to pay their DMD/DDS (Dentistry) fees for the entire duration of the course? How easy is it to pay off the debts after becoming a licensed dentist in Canada? Guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You may qualify for a line of credit if you have enough assets and a credit history. Since this a licensing process I don't believe you qualify for provincial student loans.

There is definitely not a shortage of dentists in Canada especially in the larger cities so it will all be dependent on your ability to get a job and live within your means while paying off the debt. You will likely have to work for someone else's practice for a while as well. Also of course depends on getting a spot in the international dentistry program and passing the course and your licensing exams.

Thanks for the valuable info Canuck. Looking forward to the actual scenario once I land in Canada.

Best of luck! From what I hear Canadian standards are quite high partially because it is not a bachelor's degree. Once you get into an international dentistry program they may offer a professional school line of credit with a specific bank so you should ask the program coordinator whether that may be available depending on your credit history. Some banks currently offer lines of credit for Canadian students in various professional programs.
