Hey Guys,

I've been informed that the embassy staff are on strike and are therefore not processing applications. Thats the reason tht people are facing so many delays on their applications. I had applied for a study permit in the 3rd week of May (for a masters at York University), and am still waiting for a response :( Apparently, they have not been issuing visas (from Delhi) for almost the past week or so.

Just in case you dont believe me, the info is available on the CIC website - just click on the link on the left that says check processing times - i would past the link here, but since I'm a newbie, I am not allowed to post links on here...

See for yourselves.

Cheers

Its a sad news for all the applicants.

Thats indeed a bad news.

This all started when the Royal Bank of Canada replaced their Canadian employees with the immigrants one, this lead to uproar among the canadian community and led to strike to cap the intake of future immigrants.

No clue which are the centres that are affected. However, it appears to be quite a powerful union if their strike has slowed down visa processing. I guess the majority of the embassy employees must be members of it.

We can only keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

I feel really worried as I had planned to apply for a visitor visa for my wife after getting mine... and I had thought I would have had mine by now :(

If anyone has any info on ppl receiving visas at any of the centres, please pass on the msg here... it gives other ppl hope

Cheers

Well i wont agree to this to an extend.
I applied for my student visa on 27 May 2013 at VFS mumbai and got my visa in 8 working days i.e. 5 June(email form Embassy) and passport on 6th June.
So i don't think the strike is impacting anything.

Well this article was uploaded on 11 june and you got your visa before that. SO it is did not create problem for you.

You are wrong. This is entirely different news and nothing related to strike by diplomats or visa officers. VO's are on strike for increase in their pay.

However, we had applied at different centres...therefore, perhaps this is affecting Delhi only...

The strike is worldwide and affecting every Canadian Embassy !!!

The strike is only affecting those 12 specific high commissions. Please get your facts straight, and get your news from North American sources, not whichever paper you linked to.

If you go click on the topic for CHC Pakistan, you will see that processing is going on as normal. In fact, almost a dozen students have received their medical requests over the last three days.

Your application will ONLY be affected if you applied to any one of the 12 high commissions mentioned. Stop spreading misinformation.
