Step by step guide on getting a temperory work visa

Hi guy

Ok I'd just like a little advice and information on this subject. Basicly I'm wanting to move to Canada temporaranly for about two years, in a little under a year, and I was just wanting to know what exactly it is I need to be applying for and in what order as iv herd of a number of different things needed such as getting a work permit and social insurance number as well as different types of visas.

I'm hoping to be doing volunteer work ounce I'm there for a few months and then begin to find work in any field I'm able to work in, I currently have a bachelors degree in special effects and model making and have been working in this field for about two years since graduating in 2014.

Any info and advice is realy apreceated guys, just a step by step guide and any links would be great thanks.

Note that you cannot volunteer in many roles without a work permit. If the volunteer role is something someone would normally be paid to do - then it requires a work permit. So you would not be able to volunteer in special effects or model making without a work permit. However you could volunteer at a church bake sale without a work permit.

To qualify for a work permit you first need to obtain a full time job offer in Canada. Next your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA (this is a long and expensive process than can take well over four months to complete). If the LMIA is pproved, you can then apply for a work permit.

Depending on your country of citizenship, there may be other options.

Ahhh ok I see, yes I understand I'd still need a work permit to still do volunteer work. Basicly I'm not just looking to do special effects work, just any kind of work I would be eligible for. when I spoke to a immigration agency they explained I'd need to apply for the permit first before finding work, as the open work permit that I'm wanting meant I'd be able to apply for a certain number of jobs in Canada ounce I can get it.

So dose this mean the only way to move over would be to have a job offer beforehand ?

As requested, please indicate your country of citizenship is (i.e. what passport you hold). It's diffcult to answer your questions without this information.

Open work permits are only granted under specific circumstances. You may or may not qualify.

Ahh ok I'm English currently residing in the uk.

In that case you should look into the IEC / Working Holiday Visa program.

Upside is that this gives you an open work permit (assuming you qualify).

Downside is there are far more people who want to participate that work permits available (it's a lottery system).

Right I see, so it's an open work permit I need. Ok so in that case you would suggest that's the first document I apply for right.

Just so I understand correctly do you know what else I would require as well as the open work visa ? Or if there is anything else I need ? Social insurance number and such.
