Hi All,

Please help me with the below query.

I applied for PGWP and PR simultaneously. I received passport request for PR stamping a week back and thus cancelled by work permit application. Since my study permit is still valid, I think I am holding "Student" status. I am confused if I can work now. Please suggest me and let me know if I can work. If yes, then for how many hours/week?

Thanks & Regards.

How long has it been since your graduation date?

As you have finished your studies and do not have a PGWP app in process, you are not allowed to work. You really jumped the gun by cancelling the PGWP app, as it could be weeks before you get your stamped passport and COPR.

I completed my course in September 2017. But I do have study visa valid until December 2018 (I transferred to a one year course from a two-year course after coming here).

Yes, I agree. But what all checks are done while stamping of PR process?

Will this be a problem while landing at the port of entry? Kindly reply.
Yes, you can't use this route since you don't have a valid status after canceling the PGWP application. As per IRCC:
For POE and appointment-based landing, you will have to show the officer:
  • your passport, travel or identity document (including your visa sticker, if you have one), and
  • your Confirmation of Permanent Residence, permanent resident visa, Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), letter of introduction or any instructions from the Canadian visa office, and
  • your proof of legal status in Canada, such as a valid work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit, or visitor document, or any immigration document you have (whether valid or not), or
  • proof of implied status (if you applied to extend your stay before it ended). Proof of this status may include:
    • payment receipt,
    • copy of your application to extend your stay,
    • printout of online application, or
    • proof of mailing.
Clearly, you don't have any of the two highlighted documents.
In this case, you must leave Canada, enter another country and re-enter Canada to activate your CoPR. Good Luck!
