Status of WP after COPR

Hello,

Hopefully someone can guide my friend on this situation.

My friend got his COPR in Jan this year. But no sign of PR card from Etobicoke office. He also got his Work permit extension approved in Nov last year which is valid till Mar 2023. Unfortunately he had to travel to India due to death in family.

Can he travel back to Canada on the Work Permit or does he mandatorily needs a PRTD?

PRTD processing is taking 4-6 weeks at least and he wanted to travel back in 2 weeks or so.

Your friend is a permanent resident meaning that all existing visas are invalid and cannot be used to travel. He will need to apply for a PRTD
