Hello, I'm from brasil and me and my husband just got married. And we will start the sponsor process IN LAND.
My immigrant consultant told me that my husband doesnt have to prove money. All we have to show is that we have a real marriage.
I am worried. Can someone please tell me their experience, also with the WP. How long time?
Thanks

Hi

There is no minimum income requirement but your husband needs to show that you can support yourselves in Canada without welfare.

I suggest you apply outland. Sao Paulo is a fast office.

I'm still new as well, but canuck_in_uk us correct according to everything I've learned - your husband will have to fill out a form asking about his finances to make sure he is able to support you both. HOWEVER, if you live in Quebec he will not have to fill out that form. There is a tool from this website that helps estimate waiting times. I've pasted it below but I am not allowed to post links so you will need to copy and paste it into your browser:

canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-processing-times.html

For inland applicants the wait is over 2 years, but if you wanted to apply outland (it is still possible to stay in Canada as a visitor during this time, so don't think it means being separated for all of it!) it would take approximately 10 months. Something to think about :)

Current inland statistics show it's 22 months average. It was 26. And from all indications it's continuing to fall.

OWP is 4 months from the day you apply

Stats link: http://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/53105221-7652-47b1-96e2-1f85715a067c

Also, the 22 months includes processing the backlog accumulated from the beginning of the program. Some are landing in 6mos or less. One case of a 2016 app just after ours landed before they even got their OWP.

Not all cases are like this. It will depend greatly on the evidence you provide upfront and the completeness of your application.
