Hi all experts,

I have gone through this and few other threads but could not get the relevant information related to my child situation. Can some one advise on following and also advise some other fruitful advises please:
My Canadian born child is planning to returned Canada first time very soon as he has left Canada with parents at the age of just six months and now planning to start his high school education from Canada at the age of 17 and he has all the relevant documents likewise: Canadian valid passport, SIN, Healthcare card (Expired but can be renewed), Birth-certificate etc...
your expert advises are requested on following queries and would appreciate if you could also add some more suggestions which could help him:

1: what is the minimum requirement of passing grade/class from out-side Canada to get the admission in high school in Canada ?
2: Should he go directly to high school for admission or should he visit to an education office/department to get support for admission in school.
3: Should he open a bank account once reached there.
4: should he file his tax returns although there is no income he has earned in Canada yet and never file any returns earlier?
5: Can he apply for education loan?
6: Can he is eligible to apply for child tax benefits for himself although he is still under 18 and would be living there alone and don't have any guardian/custodian etc..?
7: what support can he get from government of Canada while living alone in Canada till the time his education is completed.
8: Can u refer any High-school who provides the hostel/boarding facility ?

Thanks in advance for your usual support.

High school education is ending at his age has he not been attending any high school? You mentioned a deposit of 250K in your visa application. Was that not accurate or can you not use those funds? It would be much better for your son to return to Canada as an adult. Returning as a 17 puts him in a very vulnerable situation. He could potentially end up becoming a ward of the state which is an awful place for children.

1. Depends on what stage in high school he would be entering.

2. He can't admit himself. He must have a parent or you must appoint a guardian. Admission process depends on the school/district.

3. Sure.

4. No point in filing.

5. If he qualifies, yes. Note that he will need to declare your foreign income to be assessed.

6. Of course not.

7. None. You are responsible for finding a guardian for him and ensuring he is taken care of.

8. Google. It is really only private schools that offer boarding, so expect to be paying at least $40,000/year.

Thank you so much for your response. required some more info as per following please:

1. Depends on what stage in high school he would be entering.
He has completed O'Level/Grade 10 education from Cambridge UK International Student and would like to start high school education from grade 11 onward.
2. He can't admit himself. He must have a parent or you must appoint a guardian. Admission process depends on the school/district.
please suggest the way forward if parents are not Canadian Citizens and also don't have any guardians there to whom we could appoint as guardian.
4. No point in filing.
but some one told me that person above 16 should file their annual tax returns regardless of income if it is Zero

7. None. You are responsible for finding a guardian for him and ensuring he is taken care of.
If parents are outside Canada than at least Canadian Government should support in such cases. can you advise what else we can do in such case.

Ref #4 as far as tax is concerned read the official CRA website do not rely on what someone else says. All the information can be found there

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/you-have-file-a-return.html

#7 maybe wait until is 18 and no longer a minor in some provinces although some have 19 as the age. As another poster has implied being a minor without a parent or guardian in Canada could be tough. The Canadian government would expect a parent or guardian to make arrangements to support a minor, no reason for the government to provide support.

Maybe I missed it but what is the urgency or desire to attend high school at this late stage in his education given the upheaval involved in both fitting in and moving alone to a new country ? Complete high school in home country and then apply as a citizen to university in Canada.

Thanks for sharing the details. Now, we are clear about filing the tax returns.

We as parents are fully agreed and would like to send him after compilation of his High school education (Grade 12) but he is insisting to get the quality high school education (from grade 11 onward) from Canada being Canadian Citizen. what can we do in such case ? Can his mother (Non Canadian) go with him to facilitate him there to get admission in High school, arrange food/accommodation.

Your son has to realize the due to your previous asylum attempt his parents will continue to have difficulty entering Canada. He will also have to realize if his parents are not in the position to financially support him as a minor and find a guardian coming to Canada is probably not an option for him.

7. The Canadian government is not responsible for parenting your child of you choose for him to come here.

I agree that's not a great idea. He is a minor without a guardian...
And throwing him into final year(s) of highschool... without local support.
May be wait till he has finial high school and admit into post-secondary/university?

Respected seniors many thanks for your experts advises. Apologies for bothering but still do not understand why a Canadian child is unable to get schooling from his own country being a Canadian citizen no matter his parents are not living with him there. All other Canadian children are having free education facility being there and our son could not avail free and quality education whereas he don't have any restrictions for traveling and living there.

There must be a solution where Service Canada or any other department should facilitate him to get the schooling till the age he become an adult (18+) to complete the high school education if child don’t have guardianship.

Yes he can come and have free education as long as you provide a place to live for him and a guardian if you are not in Canada.

Thank you so much for your response indeed. A small query regarding parents availability in Canada in such cases, is there any possibility if a miner child request to the government to facilitate his mother to be there with him on a short temporary resident visa (till he becomes adult 18) as it will be more convenient for a parent to take care of him and provide shelter, foods etc....
