Spouse's separate PR process

I am a Canadian PR. Got recently engaged. My fiance wants to apply for PR on his own and doesn't want to be sponsored. We’ll get married somewhere in between his PR process. Can he do that? Declare me as a spouse and still create his own application?

Yes, he can do that. He would just need to send a copy of the marriage certificate and your PR card to update IRCC after marrying.

You can both apply for Economic class PR independently but if you marry while the PR application(s) is/are being processed, you will each have to be added to the others application. You can't "land" as single, if you are actually no longer single.
