Hi

I applied PR for my spouse under Family category recently. She is from India and already has visitor Visa to Canada. She has also visited Canada before our marriage.

I want to bring her to Canada while PR is in progress. Is it okay to bring her here since she already has visitor visa ? Will they allow her to Canada at Port of Entry if they know spouse is a PR. Please suggest.

Thanks
Uday

Hi Uday, as long as she has her TRV, that won't be a problem. Do you want her to come to Canada now for a visit or permanently? Just out of curiosity, because either way it's fine.

I've been in Canada for two weeks now on TRV. No problem at all at port of entry. The officer asked me what I was here for (Christmas visit to see my husband), when we got married, his status in Canada (PR), and a few other questions. He was nice and polite. When I told him I was in the midst of PR application, he even told me that I might not have to leave Canada ever again if my PR is approved without interview, and that I could just keep extending my visa until it's approved. I was a little surprised that he'd say that.

Thanks bongd.
I want her to stay with me till she gets Passport Request. Then anyway, she has to go to India to get the Immigrant visa and then come back and land here as Immigrant. For now, I am bringing her on a 2-month visit and booked her return ticket too. Probably by then, I hope, she will receive Passport Request.

Your advice has given me a lot of relief. I wish my wife too have a similar experience at the Port of Entry. Can you advice me what would be better to say about the reason for a 2-month visit ? Did you carry any proof to convince them that your visit is temporary ?

Good Luck for your PR!

it was not a problem for me at the POE either when I had my visitors visa and PR application in process. they actually were even unusually kind with me and granted 6 months stay right away.

Hi uday, they didn't ask me for any proof to show temporary visit. That part should've been done when they processed the TRV, so you shouldn't have any problems at POE. They also allowed me a 6-months stay like Suin, so I'm thinking that might be standard treatment. Don't worry too much, you'll be fine :)

wawww, I was surprised by your post, visiting Canada while the PR in process...how come everyone used to say that you won't be granted a visitor visa if you have a PR in process? maybe if you have ALREADY one, it isn't a problem...anyway happy for you

I was granted TRV while my sponsorship was in process. but we had special circumstances.

I was also granted TRV while my PR application was in process. I have no idea why I got it when so many people say it's almost impossible, but I'm not complaining ;)

My wife came to Canada yesterday. No questions asked at POE other than the reason for her visit. I am glad that it went smoothly. Thanks all for your advice.

what reason did she give?
i plan to go back in feb was just going to say to be with my husband while we wait to hear on my PR

Reason she gave was simple. She said that she has come to meet spouse. As long as you have valid TRV, you should not have any problem at POE.

i'm American so i don't get trv unless they decide at POE which they usually do but i have only had a problem getting it a hand full of times

does she have a multiple entry visa or single? it shouldn't be any problem at all even if she has a single entry, but not yet used.
