Hello Guys..

I am an Indian student studying a two year post graduate program in Canada since last year. I got married recently.

My husband, an Indian is residing in UK since last two years on work permit.

We are planning to do one of the following:-
Either apply for Open Work Permit (Under Spouse Visa)
Or apply for PR (My husband reaches 67 points as required)

We want to go for the fastest procedure from the above two.

Kindly help me decide which one (Open Work Permit OR PR) would be better for my situation...

Thank you.. :)

If you want to meet your husband quickly then don't go for PR option from outside Canada as it takes a lot of time. Currently, CIC is working hard on decreasing the delay but it takes time. OWP option will be quicker.

first he will have to apply for TRV then after approval he can apply for Open work permit inside/outside canada.

Like the Inam said to obtain TRV he will have to show strong ties to home country.

Thanks Inam and HBK for your replies! :)

So according to you guys we should go for TRV and then OWP..?!

But I read in TRV forums that the rejection rate is very high! :(

When my husband will apply for a TRV saying he wants to visit his wife, do u think the rejection chances will be high?!

If we go for TRV, Do u have any suggestions as to what precautions should we take?
As we WILL have to mention that my husband is coming to meet me, is there a better way according to you guys to put it in such a way that rejection chances will decrease?

Also I have read alot "Strong Family Ties" .. Can you give me a list of documents that proove strong family ties??

Looking forward for your replies..Thank you! :)

HI,
don't forget to provide reference letter from his employer indicating he will join back company after coming back.(if he is working)
Provide business papers (if he is businessman)
leave letter from university (if he is studying)
etc.

make some points yourself which shows his intention is to comeback.

Many spouses on the forum who applied for TRV or visitor visa have been rejected because the VO did not think they will leave Canada at the end of their stay. To obtain a TRV, your husband has to show strong ties to his home country(India), but he currently resides in the UK and you(his wife) in Canada, so he may have a hard time satisfying the officer. The officer will be right in having doubts since your real plan is for him to get a work permit, right? :P

Why not apply for the open work permit and the TRV from the get go? As a student, your husband is eligible for an open work permit, valid for the same duration as your study permit.

See under "Spouses of Foreign Students": http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/france/visas/spouses-conjoint.aspx?lang=eng&view=d and click on "work permit application form" for the application package.

Work and study permit applications must be sent by mail: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/france/visas/index.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=35&view=d

Processing times for Embassy in Paris: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/france/visas/processing-traitement.aspx?view=d
Contact information/how to submit application: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/france/visas/contact_visa_contactez.aspx?lang=eng&view=d

Note:When sending an application by mail, please indicate the type of application on the enveloppe (e.g. TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA or STUDY PERMIT or WORK PERMIT). If you fail to do so, the processing time may be longer.

After you graduate, you may be eligible for a post graduate work permit for up to 3 years. If your job is skilled(NOC O, A or B), your husband will also be eligible for an open work permit for the duration of your post graduate work permit.
