Hello everyone! I am Italian and in August I will arrive in Toronto with a study permit in order to attend a post-graduate program, and my husband would like to come with me. I know that spouse or common-in-law partner of international students could receive an open work permit. I would like to know if it is possible for him to obtain the work permit directly at the border or if it is necessary to enter as a tourist first and to do the papers afterwards.

Thank you very much.

Hi

He can apply for a work permit at the port of entry.

Sorry, I read your answer only right now.
Thank you very much for your response.
Do we need other documents besides the marriage certificate? Thank you again.

No. You just need to make sure you have all of your documents in order for your study permit and his work permit will be issued based on that.
