Spouse Sponsorship with Open Work Permit

Hello. We just applied for my wife's sponsorship (inland). Does anyone here have experience of submitting an open work permit application with the sponsorship? Can you share your experience especially in the timeline for the work permit? Thank you.

8+ months for the OWP. Sponsorship is generally longer.

If you need the extra income outland sponsorship and remaining in your home country is probably a better option. In most provinces your spouse won‘t qualify for healthcare as well while they wait.

Thanks for the reply. I guess we both thought it will be easier to manage the application if she is here. I am a canadian citizen so I can work. My wife is a foreign national so she is a full time homemaker while on a maintained visitor status for now. She is very used to working though and is being mentally and emotionally challenged as she is not used to being dependent. We both understand the sacrifice needed. Just really hoping it won't be too long.

Can she work remotely (freelancer, per se)? If so, she would not need a work permit as long as she is not remunerated from within Canada and does not work for, or provide goods/services to a Canadian company or individual. Working via the internet or phone for someone outside of Canada is perfectly fine, but she should be sure to check to see if she would be deemed a tax resident of Canada (even though she has not yet been approved for PR).
