Hi there,

I might be getting married soon to someone in India and was contemplating all the options that were available (inland vs outland applications).

For an inland spousal sponsorship application, is it possible for the spouse to be able to get a study permit before the AIP stage (assuming she is accepted at a university/college)? Or would she only be able to get it after the AIP stage as is the case for the open work permit?

Thanks in advance!

She could apply for a study permit concurrently with her spousal application before AIP, however, the tuition costs associated without of country students is phenomenally high. Are you sure you want her to study BEFORE she gets her PR?

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Not sure yet but just looking at options - but that's a good point though. So we can apply for the study permit before the AIP stage, can we also get the permit before the AIP stage?

Hi

If you want to apply inland, your spouse would need to actually get to Canada first. TRVs are not often granted to the spouses of Canadian citizens/PRs. For that reason, you should also be looking at applying outland just in case.

If she is accepted to an educational institute in Canada, she should apply for a study permit independently of a PR app.
