Spouse open work permit with husband's work permit extension

Hi everyone,
My husband's work permit is about to expire by Nov,19. I landed in Canada with TRV in May, 19. By doing some research we found that I couldn't have applied for SOWP after I landed as we didnt have 6 months left in my husband's work permit visa.
Now can I apply for open work permit when we apply for our visas extension due in November? Or will I have to wait for the renewal and then apply? Please help us out.

From your experience can you tell me approximately how long it will take for
1. Visa extension
2. SWOP after the extension

Also, when can we apply for the visa extension ? One month before or even earlier ?
