Greetings Forum Members,

I have a few queries, if the same have been already answered kindly re-direct me to the relevant threads or share the information again to help me.

I am in the express entry pool with score of 399. Since I have a 1 month old child I would like my spouse and the baby to join me after a year. However, currently I have applied as spouse accompanying.

  1. What are the implications and considerations for me to change the status to spouse to not accompanying?
  2. How long does it take for my wife and child to join me if I were to sponsor them after I land in Canada? What factors could affect my ability to sponsor them and/or delay the processing?
  3. If she is coming on sponsorship does she still need to do ECA, IELTS, TEF etc?

If I am going alone what are my options to increase the score?
  • I am 31 years old
  • 5 years experience and a Bachelor of Engineering
  • IELTS band 8 (not planning to try and improve that)

As far as I know, two viable options are:
  1. TEF - I prefer to try this as I feel knowing French will serve me well in Canada. How long does it take on average to get to B2 level as I feel unless I reach at least that level it will not make a meaningful contribution to CRS
  2. PG diploma (recommended by the consultant) - How many points does it add?
Are there any other ways to increase points?

Note: My spouse has a masters degree and 4 years experience. So if I couldn't get the required CRS points. And if we choose to go together. How many points will her ECA, experience and IELTS (if necesary) and TEF (last resort) fetch?

Don't make your life difficult and create a situation when you need to sponsor them. If your spouse is not planning to move to Canada with you immediately, they can land with you and go back home. Yes, they will need to travel to do it, but people travel all the time and it is less trouble than the sponsorship process.
