Good Day! Just want ask.

My Boyfriend and I are planning to get married. He is living currently and in Ottawa and has a closed work permit job. And I am here in the province as PR. Can I sponsor him to get OWP or he needs to resign first before applying?

He can apply without resigning and work until end of his current work permit - and apply for open work permit (after getting AOR). When he gets the open work permit, he can keep working for the same company or change jobs at will.

@Jha06 did you end up applying for OWP for your partner. I am in the same boat and had some question regarding filling out the imm5710e form.

@armoured, would appreciate your help on this:

I am applying for an OWP. I have already received AOR for my spousal PR and I am currently on Closed work permit with my employer.

We are asked to fill out the Imm5710e form and I am stuck on this question which has the following 4 options:

Question: I am applying for one or more of the following :
1. Apply for a work permit with the same employer
2. Apply for a work permit for the first time or new employer
3. Restore my staus as a worker
4. Get a new temporary resident visa (for admissible applicants only)

FYI, i am planning to work with the same employer after getting the open work permit and eventually becoming a PR

I don't know but my instinct is #2. You don't want a closed work permit and you do want possibility of new employer. But honestly not my area of knowledge
