You don't really just "lose" PR status. If the PR card expires, apply for a new one and it'll be okay.

a PR should never, in theory, lose PR status during the process because a PR needs to be inside Canada during the whole process. So if a sponsor is breaking that rule, then it's a case of misrepresentation as well.

From Guide 3900 on CIC's website:

"Permanent residents residing abroad may not sponsor from outside of Canada."

I'm not sure what would happen if PR status was revoked. It makes the person ineligible to sponsor, so the application might be cancelled. If the applicant already has their CoPR, it's hard to say what would happen.
