Hello. Me and my bf have been into relationship from home country we dis our schooling college university together. Then we both moved to canada ( me after one year). He is PR now but i am on maintained status for visitor record. My work permit got expired 4 months ago. Now, we are planning to do court marriage with just two witness, no gathering or party as of both families are not ready.

So, if we do marriage now without any gathering and right away apply for my work permit will ircc question it as a immigration purpose only?
We have been living together from about last 5 months.
Thank you

You can get married legally in the court. You cannot apply for work permit right away until you have applied for PR and got AOR. Current WP processing times are around 200 days not including applying for PR and waiting for AOR. Whether IRCC questions the genuineness of your marriage will not be known until eligibility has passed.
Ok. Thank you
So it is nit necessary to do gathering right

You should be prepared to be public with the fact that you are married especially given your immigration situation. This is a longterm relationship and your parents seem to be aware of the relationship. You specify that they aren’t ready for you to get married but do they oppose the wedding to your partner? That is one of the reasons people may need to have a small wedding in Canada without family and would be explained when submitting the sponsorship application. If for example you have social media I would be posting that you got married if you have posted about your time dating as well.

I disagree that you shouldn’t have a gathering after the ceremony. Especially given your immigration history I would have at least small party or dinner/lunch with friends (or family if you have any in Canada) after the civil ceremony. Doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive but given you are out of status, you appear to have only started living together when your WP was expiring, no family at your wedding, not an traditional wedding, etc.
