Hello all, need some much needed advice.

I am a Canadian citizen working in South Korea, while living with my wife (Korean) and our son (dual citizen)

I have a job contract in Canada 4 months from now and want to sponsor my wife. I would like to apply for the PR from Korea then fly with my family 2 months later to Canada, my wife will have a return ticket. Thereafter I want to inform immigration of an address change to the application (once we find an apt). We cannot do an immigration medical in korea until we get the official request document from the Canadian gov, so would do the medical in Canada thereafter. I would extend my wife's stay beyond 6 months with a request based on the fact we have a PR application in process.

Any issues? Has anyone done something similar?

The confusion for me is that both situations (travel as a tourist then apply within Canada AND apply for PR abroad, travel as a tourist + update application to in country) seem suspect to a customs officer.

Waiting in Korea for the application is not practical as I support my family and we have a child together.

Please note: Koreans can stay in Canada for 6 months as long as they have an up to date ETA.

Any help appreciated.

If your wife is not planning on working why not start the outland spousal sponsorship now and continue it in Canada. The only issue is that your wife will not be able to work until she gets her PR. You will also be able to show that you have started and paid for the spousal sponsorship. Outland confuses people because it can be done while in Canada.

One of my concerns is now you do not get a medical done before you apply, the application says to wait until immigration notifies you to get a medical and you must do it within 30 days. Would there be an issue with applying in korea, landing in Canada early, and getting the medical done in Canada?

There’s no issue with doing the medical in Canada even if you apply Outland.
