Hi..newbie to the forum and whole process so pretty clueless...wondering for what reasons could I be rejected as a sponsor? Naturalized Canadian citizen living in the uk now...no criminal record...work full time as a registered Occupational therapist here in uk...don't have a brilliant credit rating and that is a bit of a worry. will this affect my approval to sponsor my husband who I married 17 years ago? what other factors could affect my approval to sponsor? do I need a health check or just my husband?

Sponsors are generally only rejected if they are on welfare, bankrupt, or in default of a previous undertaking or child support.
Credit rating shouldn't be an issue. Only the people being sponsored need medicals.
If you are living outside of Canada, then you need to prove your intent to return to Canada.

intent - you need to provide some proof or at least a detailed plan on how you will move back to Canada and make a living. Great proof are things like a job offer in Canada or signing a lease for an apartment in Canada. Since very few people have that level of proof early, you need to at least show some proof that you are looking for a job or apartment in Canada. Letters from your family in Canada saying they will give you a place to stay when you move back, etc. Things like that.

Default of a previous undertaking - I think if you sponsored someone else to Canada in the past and that person took welfare, etc. Maybe something like that.

also what do you mean in default of a previous undertaking?

It means that in the past you sponsored somebody, they went on welfare, and you haven't either paid the government back or haven't stuck to whatever arrangement you and the gov't made to recoup the funds.
