My Canadian fiancee and I are getting married in two weeks. I'm a US Citizen with a stable career (she lives 2 hours across the border from me). I am preparing my application for spousal PR and OWP. The only reason for this is that so I can "stay" at her place without maxing the 6 months restriction as a visitor. Thus, I'm applying for the PR status but with OWP, just in case (they both require similar documentation, so it made sense to do so together in one package).

My reasoning (could be wrong, but please someone let me know if this is the correct thought process), for applying with OWP is that since spousal PR app takes ~3 years to be processed/approved/reject, I figured that applying for OWP just in case since it takes~4/5 months to process. Thus, having an OWP (assuming that it's granted), I would have more status than just a visitor to stay longer with her while my PR application is pending. My US job is remote at the moment. Hence, I have no problem working from her house.

My question is that the OWP asks for start and end date of employment. What should I put for start and end date? I was thinking the end date should be ~3 years from now since that's when I should know if I'm approved for my PR application. Do I plan to work in Canada? If there's a job for me then sure otherwise, there's more opportunities for my field in the US.

Even in COVID times . . . 3 years????

Start date doesn't matter. Choose an end date a year or so in the future to cover the duration of the PR process.

I was reading from the website that it could take up to 3 years. How long does it normally take? I have no idea.

Thank you for your response regarding the end date.
