Hi all,

I am posting to this forum and I need your advice on this matter as it is taking so much of my time.

I met a girl that I want to marry. I live in Canada and I am a PR. She is not in Canada. I proposed to her but nothing formal happened yet ( no marriage ceremony yet, no engagement yet ) however we are planning on getting married during the summer.

I have read online and it seems that I have two options to follow and for us to be together.

Option 1
get married during summer in her country and then apply for the outland spousal sponsorship once I come back to Canada. This will be helpful because I will have wedding pictures to attach to the application. the bad thing about this is that we will be apart for a very long time because I will have to wait till the summer for the marriage then start the application process after marriage.

option 2
the second option is that she comes on a student visa to canada to study english. This will be better because we can be together faster. Once she is here we can do our formal marriage ceremony and then apply for a spousal sponsorship. I have no issue with how long its going to take for the spousal application as long as we are already together.

so which option is better ? any pros, cons, suggestions, ideas or comments ?

finally i have an extra question... are the wedding pictures necessary for the application ? or is the engagement certificate enough for the application ?

Engagement is not enough. You have to be married, or have lived together for 12 months.
What country is your girlfriend from?
