Hi Everyone!

I'm a Canadian, recently married an Indian girl - in Canada. We are planning to apply soon for spousal sponsorship. This past February, she completed a medical exam in anticipation of obtaining a work permit.

Does anybody know if those medical results would still be eligible for the Spousal Sponsorship?

She is now pregnant and re-doing a medical exam - if it requires x-rays - is not an option for us.

So just a response about length of medical eligibility, if you have knowledge.

One more thing, regarding medical coverage - does anybody know how long it takes to become eligible for MSP, as we live in BC?

Thank You for any responses. They are appreciated.

Medicals are good for a year so she will likely have to redo the medical. Have you googled the MSP website? It indicates that you may receive coverage if you have applied for spousal sponsorship. Would anticipate paying for some to all expenses related to the pregnancy. Not sure why people don't check to see if they have medical coverage before getting pregnant or not preventing pregnancy.

She will most likely be eligible for MSP, and the coverage will start 2-3 months after paying for the sponsorship. You will also need to have a proof of arrival to BC (like a boarding pass or a stamp in the passport). We just recently went through that with our son that we were sponsoring.

Back then, they only let me add my husband to MSP after AIP.

Guess they have changed it.
"The wait period begins on the date the sponsorship fee and application fee for permanent resident status has been paid to IRCC."

That is typically what happens so that coverage is granted to those who have basically been approved. Granting coverage so early means that others who could e refused will be covered.

I would doublecheck your situation because your file will be placed on hold if you don't do the medical due to the x-ray.

Your best bet is to call msp and ask to speak to an enrollment specialist. They will be able to tell you exactly what will work for your situation. They’re quite friendly and helpful.
