are you a spousal condidate?
The section of the forum is about family sponsorship. So likely people are being sponsored as spouse/common law partner by their PR/citizen spouses/partners.

Not sure what you mean by candidtate.

Reschedule most likely take much longer time.

Hello,

I have sponsored my wife through the spousal sponsorship program and we are finally landing in Toronto later this month.

We just wanted to get up to speed with regards to the procedures to follow and the preparedness needed for landing.

Is there any specific information or documents we must have handy when facing immigration at landing for the first time, for example bank statements with proof of funds?

Also, since we will only be carrying our personal luggage with no plans to ship any household effects later, do we still need to fill out the BSF186 form at landing or not?

Are there any particular questions from the immigration officials we or my wife must be prepared to answer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

You don't need proof of funds for spousal sponsorship.

Hi,

I sponsored my spouse in January 2024. Medical was done in November and after that we received additional questions related to our marriage. Since then no response from CIC since then. We ordered GCMS which shows last notes stating An interview is required to further assess the bona fides of the relationship. We have not received any letter about interview yet? Does anyone else have similar experience?

It can take months to get an interview and longer in areas where there are no IRCC offices.

Hello Members,
URGENT!! We applied for outland sponsorship and received an interview request after a year of waiting. Is it a negative thing? We did submitted all the proofs for our marriage pre and post wedding phots and all other proof. Just trying to understand is this usual these days getting interview. This situation is extremely stressful, and we have no clear idea why the interview was requested.
Is there a way to figure out the reasons for interview request.
Can some please share there's interview experience that will be a great help. What kind of questions they ask how long the interview takes etc. Please share any important information related to the interview.
Thanks a lot in advance!

This generally means they have concerns about your relationship or application. Order GCMS notes asap to see what they tell you about the reasons for the interview. See the first page of this thread for a list of possible interview questions. Good luck.

Thanks will apply for GCMS notes.

Hi, there, my spouse had his spousal interview in VO Dakar on january 21st, 2026. So as of date of this post: 11 days ago.
It went well: he had all the answers. Officers (3 of them) were listening, and not confrontational. And even commented that they agreed with the decision of my spouse to not tell his mother about some aspect of my life ("you are right about that" she said). They moved from one topic to the next. They did not deepen any question, did not interrupt, and did not ask the same questions several times or in different way.

It lasted 20 min. They took a small break, came back, had one more question. Which he answered correctly. And said they would email the answer.

They remained opaque and absent as to if they approved eligibility or not. But they expressed no douts nor concerns during the interview.

We have seen no updates on tracker since then.

I m pretty sure it went well.
I want to know if others on here had this experience where no answer was given on the spot, but later was approved/denied. and how long it took to finally hear back/get FD/ppr.

Note: security was not started at time of interview, but should be straightforward as PA never left home country and never was part of political/miliatry/police.

The wait is a little nerve-racking, although, by all accounts: it seems positive.

GCMS notes that requested the interview raised no concerns/reason for interview, or doubts. It just said it should be scheduled.
Understandable: many red flags: age difference, culture difference, small civil court mariage, etc.... they noted those things and other "red flags" in the eleigibility review notes, but just as a matter of fact.

So neither GCMS notes, nor interview officer raised doubts.

I am not sure if security was started, or criminality completed....
I am bummed because medical expires on the 4th of february. 2026. So it looks like we will have to spend money on this again if we don't get FD shortly....

Some questions:
- What does PA mother think about woman sponsor being older
- Who does Sponsor live with in Canada
- Why Sponsor family not at mariage
- where was sponsor when first contacted online? (these were info in our chats)
- where was sponsor when reconnected a few years later online? (these were info in our chats)
- date of first physical meeting
- date of mariage
- why sponsor divorced previous spouse
- why she didn't come visit in a year now
- name of sponsor
- name of sponsor's father

everything always just asked once. then move to the next question.

Thank you.

If your spouse just had the interview there is unlikely to be any information about the interview or results other than an interview was required. Security can take a long time for a variety of reasons including having to wait in a long queue because only so many people process the screenings, some foreign governments are less cooperative than others, etc. Even without obvious security concerns it can take longer to process secure screenings from certain countries. VOs can extend the validity of a medical so you may not have to do another one.
