Spousal Sponsorship and Visitor Visas

I am looking for information on sponsoring my wife.

She currently resides with me on a visitor visa and we are looking for the best way to go about applying. From what I understand we have an inside Canada, and outside Canada option.

If we choose to go with inside Canada, do we also need to apply for a visitor visa extension or is it possible for us to get some sort of work permit?
