Would love some help from anyone.

Our spousal outland application (UK) just got returned, but the generic letter stating why doesn't really help us. It said an application must meet sections 10 and 11 of the IRPR, sure, and section 87.3 of the IRPA, sure, and that's basically it. No circles on out forms to say e.g. 'you missed this signature!'

Can we call the CIC for an exact reason why our application forms were rejected? I'm so confused by it and scared to keep on sending the forms only to keep getting them rejected.

Were you applying with the new application kit, or the old one? When did you send it? Have you looked over the checklist and gone through the application to make sure nothing was left out?

I was using the old application kit but Canada Post says the forms were received before 31 January (they were received 27 January) so that *shouldn't* have been an issue.

Do you know if by calling the CIC I can get more specific information on what we did wrong or missed out?

I'm not sure. Since you're going to have to use the new application kit now anyway, I wouldn't actually stress too much about it. I would look through to make sure nothing really obvious was left out by accident, but I'm not sure I'd bother trying to call. It's hit and miss as to how helpful they are, and if they didn't actually include anything with the returned package that stated what it might have been, then I don't know if they'll have a better answer.

Thanks Dana. I appreciate your help! I'm going to take some deep breaths, print off all the new forms, and try to hope that my medical exam results and police certificates won't be seen as 'out of date' by the time the CIC requests them following the new application protocol :s

The more I think about it, the more this seems like fairly quick turn around for an application return. Often it takes close to the amount of time for AOR1 to be received, and longer, before it shows back up in the mail. While the wording implies that they would accept applications with the old kit received up to the 31st, I'm wondering if that didn't mean "delivered" by then but meant actually opened for initial processing. I hope that's not what happened here, but one has to wonder. The 27th was a Friday, so it's unlikely much would have happened with it at that point, or over that weekend. It's entirely possible it sat there beyond the 31st and then when it was opened got put into the return pile because it was an older application kit.

That's what I wondered too, Dana, but I just checked and some of the first forms are stamped by the CIC saying 27 January 2017, so I guessed it can't have been that.

Yeah, if forms have stamped dates on them, you wouldn't think so. Sending it back without specific information about what's wrong or missing is frustrating. Makes me wish I could see your application to see if anything jumped out at me. I hate an unsolved mystery!

Me too! I was a lawyer back home in Scotland so I'm even more frustrated with myself for missing something little. Ah, well. Tomorrow, tomorrow I'll start all over again :)

You should fill out the forms o. Your computer and validate them before printing. Also follow the check list closely, you'll do fine.
