Hi everyone! I came here last month with my wife and kids on visit visa and then I got my study visa now I have 15000$ in my bank account. I got my study permit. My question is that is this amount enough to apply for my family open work permit I have 2 kids. Thanks in advance for your valuable comments.

How did you get a study permit with only 15k? Had you already paid one year of tuition? 15k is probably likely not enough to support a single person for a year in Canada. What type of degree are you doing? Chances of getting SOWP and Study permit’s for children 4 and above increase for masters and PhD students. What city are you studying in because the cost of living varies greatly within Canada?

I have paid 1 year fees and I have GIC account that is 10000$ separate. This 15000$ I have extra in my account. I will start my master’s degree in this September. How much would be enough for SOWP.

There is no set amount of savings that guarantees approval for depedents. All do is apply. Is this a 2 year program? If so will you have access to more funds to pay for the 2nd year of schooling and expenses. Where you are studying will also make an impact. For example if studying in Vancouver or GTA rent alone for a 2 bedroom would easily be around 2500 to 3k minimum and there is huge competition for rental properties due to the lack of supply. If your spouse has been working and has education and work history that coincides with skills needs in Canada that should also be highlighted as a benefit to Canada and a consideration when it comes to how you will support your family while in Canada. Would suggest applying asap because it will be difficult if not impossible to get a response before September for an OWP. If you have children 4 and above they should apply for a study permit. Although many government sites say TRV is acceptable we have seen school aged children denied TRVs and told to apply for study permits instead

Hi thank you for your message. My college is in Windsor and my wife is just higher school certificate. She is house wife and I have 2 kids. I am allowed to work from September. But now I just have this extra 15000$. I was thinking to apply on this base because I read that 5000$ is required for one dependent and it makes 15000 for 3 dependents. I can put 5000$ more in account. Is this compulsory to have job to apply for SWOP.
