HI! So I'm usually okay at figuring stuff out but this immigration stuff has got me pretty confused.
I'm looking for some info on the spousal work permit after my husband's IEC runs out.
We met last year when I was tavelling overseas. Lived with him in Italy and we wanted him to come to Canada legally so he could work. So he applied for the IEC. We had plans to marry but for october. When he arrived in Canada Jan27, instead of giving him 6 months work, 6 months visitor (1 year total) as we thought, he allowed my now husband to stay only 6 months (until Jul27) but able to work that six months.
When that happened we decided to get married on April 1st.
We are doing an inland application.
We have everything all together but I'm so confused.
Questions:
-with the spousal work permit, does he have to extend his visa even though he's from a visa free country? If so what forms and where do we send them?
-What forms or packages do I need other than the permanent residency forms?
-What time should we be sending our forms to optimize time?

Thanks!

If you include an Open Work Permit (OWP) with the Inland application (same envelope), he will have Implied Status. This wll allow him to legally remain in Canada as a visitor, but not as a worker. Since it takes ~ 4 months for the OWP to arrive, he will need to stop working after the IEC expires, until the OWP arrives.

I don't believe it matters when you send the application to `optimize time', since you'll be at the mercy of CIC no matter when it's sent!

Good luck!
