Spousal appl (British, we're in Grenada) but they want Trinidad police check?

Hi I'm a Canadian Expat sponsoring my British husband, we live in Grenada together. Our region in the Caribbean all apply to Mississauga for initial processing, then the applications are sent to Trinidad. We have received a letter saying we are in the 'final stages of processing' and be prepared to move to Canada by X date should the last two forms be approved, etc.

We hadn't heard back in some time so I emailed the Trinidad 'International' help address. They replied with an email requesting that we also get a Trinidad Police Check, but although we have frequently visited Trinidad, we have never resided there, stayed for long periods at a time, owned or rented property. According to the Trinidad government page we are not even eligible for a police check.

They've also given us less than 30 days, and husband is flying out for meetings in US for the entire next week, so we have even less time.

Suggestions/advice appreciated! Is there a contact someone can please recommend/provide? Thanks!

Reply with a copy of the government page showing he is not eligible to get a police certificate from Trinidad, and an explanation. You could try applying for one, and include proof you tried and any correspondence you get from the authorities in Trinidad.

Thanks @canadianwoman! That's exactly what I've done, emailed link, screenshot, with note, then when we sent requested forms with extended info (they decided they wanted to go back to age 18 rather than last 10 years for education/employment/addresses!) I printed out email with the same details and printed the screenshot. In the meantime we've obtained a fingerprint card here in Grenada, but now I've got to get it over to Trinidad with 50TT Dollars by mail... going to find a consulate or honorary consul here and see if they can help! Just not sure if they can force us to do this, really frustrating... we've been in limbo for a while and it's frustrating being pushed to get to Canada by new employer, builder wants to start on the house but we can't sign off until we know he'll be approved, etc!

People who have been accepted without a requested police certificate have done what you are doing: try to get the certificate, and document your attempt and all correspondence with the relevant authorities. This, plus any legal proof you can get, is usually enough for CIC to see that you tried to get it, really could not, and so waive the requirement.
