Am sponsoring my spouse to Canada. Was wondering does her grand daughter of 4 years and her son's common-law wife need to submit a police clearance even if not accompanying her to Canada? Someone please let us know, they ask for a police clearance from all family members.

"Family members" in this case means people who are being sponsored. So only your spouse.

Her son is not a dependent, so would only be listed in the "other family" form.

Thanks very helpful. But if I would be declaring her son as a non dependent if he doesn't complete the background declaration and police clearance. What if she would like to sponsor him in the future, I suppose circumstances always change......anyway thanks

He son is in a common-law relationship, so is ineligible to ever be sponsored as a dependent.
Also once a child turns 22 years old, they are ineligible to be sponsored.

A parent can only sponsor a single child that is age 21 and under.

So her son will not do police clearance or medical, he's just listed in the "other family info" part.

As Rob said, her son is not a dependent and cannot be included as one in the app.

As others have said, the son doesn't qualify as a dependent and cannot be sponsored either now or in the future. If he want to immigrate to Canada, he will have to qualify through one of Canada's economic classes such as Express Entry.
