I waited 3 years for my wife's permanent residence card.
She had a health issue and because no healthcare was offered under OHIP,
I opted to go back to Taiwan. We now got an email informing us that we need to
go to an interview in Toronto. This would be very costly as it requires both me and my wife to
go. Are there any solutions to this problem?

No, you will have to attend in Toronto. Are you guys applying inland? Give us details as to your situation.

We applied inland. After one year waiting we opted to go back to Taiwan. Now 3 years later they asked for an interview in Toronto. It cannot be possible to switch the interview to Hong Kong or something?

No you absolutely cannot switch. They scheduled the interview in Toronto under the assumption that the both of you were continuing to live near the Toronto area. Its not a good idea for you guys to be leaving Canada as a major requirement of the inland process is that the both of u must remain in Canada. There is a good chance that your application could be refused depending on how long u guys are out of Canada

If you applied inland, you are supposed to stay inside Canada during the entire processing time. You are not allowed to reside elsewhere. As soon as CIC learns you are not residing in Canada, they will cancel your inland application and make you re-apply from scratch using an outland application.

You and your wife should return back to the interview and hope CIC never learns you left, and then both of you stay in Canada afterwards until processing is complete.

Your wife would be eligible for OHIP after stage 1 approval/AIP of the inland process.

- Is it possible for my wife to go alone to pick up permanent residence card?
- what are the options?
- If we are abroad working together can she keep her permanent residence?

No, sponsor and applicant must go together.

You must both return to Canada immediately. That is the only option.

If you stay abroad, she won't even get PR as the application will be cancelled. Did you not just read our responses above??

I wanted to see if there is any other option.. You don't need to be rude... thank you very much.

Yes, there is another option. Let CIC know that you and your wife are out of country and cannot return to canada for the interview. And once your application is cancelled you can re-apply Outland. As long as you are a Canadian citizen you can stay out of the country while sponsoring your wife. Keep in mind that if you are a citizen and you apply Outland the visa office abroad will ask you for proof of your intention to return to canada if your wife is granted PR.

I read it.. i just couldn't fathom it is one and only one option.. but thank you very much for all the info.

Well you went about the application completely incorrectly so once you make such critical errors there will not be many options

I'm not sure why it's that difficult to believe. Inland is for individuals who are in Canada and they are supposed to remain in Canada for the entire process. Consequently the interview is held in Canada.

The information posted by other members are correct and they are doing their very best to help out. I don't think they are wasting their time to make you feel bad.
