Hi all,

I'm sponsoring my husband from inside Canada and he has a child in his home country from a previous relationship. She is 5 years old. I know she needs to do the medical but I also heard that they will ask for her mom to sign a bunch of immigration papers such as: IMM0008, IMM5669, IMM5406. Is this true even if she will not be coming to Canada? (not for many years at least..it is not planned she will ever move here). I was told this added an extra 6 months to the processing times...

If we do need to get these documents completed for the daughter, can we do them ahead of time and send them in asap so as not to delay the process any further?

Ps: we included info on the daughter with the original PR application, her birth certificate and address, etc.

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm in a similar situation. However, I do intend for my wife's (the applicant) daughter to come to Canada at a later date. If you do choose to include your husband's child in the application, you must include this form:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5604E.pdf

We had stated in the application that her child would accompany us at a later date. But we did not include this form (because I didn't know it existed). As s result, my wife was contacted for an interview and requested to present this form completed by the non-accompanying parent.

I would recommend including his child and this form in your application if you are unsure.

ok, so just to be clear: we have no plan that she will ever move to Canada but we do not want to rule it out and want to keep open the possibility of her coming maybe in like 10 years. In this case, we still need to fill out all the same forms as if she was moving here now? Seems strange...
and how do we inform them that she will not be coming anytime soon vs if she were coming upon its approval? Does it even matter to them? Don't you usually have to enter Canada by a certain date if you are planning to come and have an approved application?

The mother does not (nor does my husband) want the daughter to come here anytime in the near future..so especially reading that form, she will think we want to bring her here permanently, and now...their communication is not yet so positive so I am not sure how, upon reading this form, she will not think we are trying to bring the daughter now...

Thanks for the response!

when you fill out the forms you will fill out non accompany child. She will still have to have a medical but the mother does not have to fill out any forms. If you don't include her in your application you are going to run into trouble and your application will take much longer. CIc is not fond of you excluding a child ,just write a letter stating why the child will not be coming to Canada at this time.

It is in the IMM0008 form. Question 11a) will accompany principle applicant to Canada. No or Yes.

You check No.

hi Luval,

I had the same confusion until, I called CIC and spoke with a representative. She told me the mother does not have to fill out anything if the child is not going to Canada right away. You only need the child's medicals, birth certificate and the 8 immigration size photos of the child and I believe a photocopy of the child's passport. I asked about IMM 5604 for my husbands son (as he will be accompanying at a later date) and she said we did not need to fill it out (it actually turned out to be for Haitian nationals only). I don't know why etienbjl's wife was asked to fill it out, perhaps every case is different. When I sent in my application, i included in the IMM0008 form an explanation that my husband's son will come to Canada at a later date. You mention you were an inland application, mine was outland, so maybe the process is different. WHy don't you give CIC a call, the lady i spoke with was very helpful.

Thanks for the reply LaLa. Yet another example of CIC's inconsistency with applicants, I suppose.

Thanks for the helpful advice guys! so, we dont need to do anything else extra (we will do her medical when we do my husbands, she has no passport, but we included birth certificate in PR app), except maybe add photos of the daughter..and *maybe* that should be all we need, depending on how CIC agent feels the day they look at our app...lol...great.
