New born was born to PR parents here in Canada?? If yes, the baby is Canadian Citizen already.

No, baby is born outside canada. Parents are currently out of canada and will be returning after 6 months

One of you has to return home to begin the PR paperwork. The other will have to stay behind and wait with the baby, or leave the baby with relatives. It can take the same amount of time as regular PR paperwork. If you are from a VISA exempt country, you could try bringing the baby home with you and then begin the process, but from what I've read from others, having a TRV issued for the baby is likely not going to happen.

Do try to keep in mind, that if one of you has to stay behind with the baby, I hope you have left yourself ample time to fulfill your PR in country responsibility of 730 days, otherwise there is a risk you will loose that PR as well and have to start over.

I have never quite understood why folks would go through all of the things they do to get the PR, and then land and leave again to their originating country. What was the point of getting the PR to begin with if you are just going back to where you came from? And why would you leave and have your baby born out of the country so you can spend yet MORE money sponsoring a child back to a country you apparently didn't want to be in to begin with?

Anyway. Be prepared for some time away from baby for at least one of you.

Totally!! Ours to "wonder", but never to know why. However valid the reason, they're sure paying for it now . . .

I totally agree with your thoughts. There is a reason why it is called "PERMANENT" in the permanent resident status. Permanent means to stay in Canada, not get it only to take off again.

US Green card holder lose their green card when they are out of US for for 1 year wihout re-entry permit, 2 years with re-entry permit.

I think we should apply a similar rule instead of a 2 year/5 year period rule. This would force PRs to actually stay permanent in Canada.

It may not take much time compared to other types of visas. I am also going through same phase with in 45 days of sending application i got PPR .

If its only dependent thats more faster. But one of them has to be in canada to start process.

I don't think any of you need to leave Canada to sponsor your newborn. You can do it from within Canada and at the same time you need to apply for the Visitor's visa for a child. I don't think the Local Visa Office will refuse it as the parents of the child are PR holders any way and the child definitely does not need to proof his ties to the country he/she was born.

The child was not born in Canada.

I understand, that's why I mentioned that they need to apply for a visitor's visa for their child to bring him/her to Canada if they are not from the visa exempt country.

Thanks a lot guys for giving valuable suggestions

Yes, the parents are planning to take visit visa intially and then apply for PR in canada

The reason behind staying outside canada for nearly 2 yrs is to have enough funds and fulfilling other commitments.
