Hello,

I received my PR card some days back and i'm from India. Currently, I work at India and I'm getting married in the month of Feburary. I wanted to understand, how I can make sponsorship visa to my wife. (Note that, when I applied and got my PR card, I was single). I have few questions:

1. Can I apply from India for my wife?
2. Does it really needed for me to work in Canada or live in Canada, before I sponsor anyone?
3. How long does it take to get the sponsorship?

1. No, only citizens can apply from outside of Canada
2. You need to stay in Canada for the duration of the sponsorship
3. Around 12 months, usually.

That being said, how long have you lived with your wife before you received PR?

Thanks for the reply. I'm getting married only in Feb 2020. So logically, we are not officially married yet. So after Feb only I'm planning to do the process.

And also sponsorship is the only way for me? Or there are any other way? (just curious here)

She could certaily qualify and apply on her own through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry if she has sufficient points on her own.

What about TRV? I have read that some where in the forum? Can we apply TRV first before checking for my sponsorhip?

Yes - she can try applying for a TRV. If it's approved, she can come to Canada and you can sponsor her inland once you are both here.

Chances of a TRV being approved can be quite low depending on her profile. If she has a strong travel history (i.e. has previous travel to countries requiring visas such as the US and UK) and has strong ties to her home country (e.g. permanent employment, property ownership), I would recommend she apply for the TRV before you get married. It will be hard to be approved once you are married since IRCC will know she has plans on remaining in Canada long term.

Thanks much. That makes a lot of sense. I will see, what we can do. But yeah, thanks much for the replies. I will keep the thread posted, once I get something out of my plan(s).
