Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone can help me with some information. I am trying to sponsor my wife from India. I am a permanent resident here in Canada. Now there were a couple of queries.
First of all, there is form IMM5491E - Question 19, asks if I must meet the minimum necessary income then provide evidence of income, now I just wanted to know if I am sponsoring my wife, do I still need to meet the minimum necessary income and if I do, what is it? How much is it?

And secondly, do I need to provide a letter from my employer or can I just provide my paystubs?

Also does anybody have any idea how long does it take nowadays-the visa procedure?

Also do I need to provide anything to prove that its an ongoing relationship? What can I provide them to do that? we use whatsap and Skype to talk but how do I prove that?

I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Amit

There is no minimum income requirement for spousal sponsorship. You can leave that one out. However, they do require your option C printout. This can be obtained for free by calling the canada revenue agency at 18009598281. You will receive it within 10 days if you are in canada.

I believe you do require a letter of employment from your current employer if you are employed (See IMM5491 #18).

Currently, outland processing time is about 16-17 months (43 days for sponsor approval and 15 months for New Delhi visa processing ). office) from the cic website. However, I think applicants through New Delhi office have been getting them in 10 months.

To prove ongoing relationship, you can write an essay about how you two met, and how your relationship developed. You can attach proofs like your skype and whatsapp logs. What I did was, I took screenshots of my skype history since it shows the date and duration of calls and I printed out a few pages. For whatsapp, there is an option to email the whatsapp history to yourself. You can then print some of your chat logs as proofs. For me, it would be too much to include all the chat logs so I indicated that I was only sending a few chatlogs and that if they needed more, I can provide more. I tried to include one log from every month.

Hi,
Thanks for the information, it really helps. I am definitely going to write a letter.
I was worried about proof of relationship though, we had an arranged marriage, so should I write like who arranged it and what did we talk about or where did we meet the first time.
Also we chat on whatsapp every day but its in our local language, so I am not sure if it would be much help, would it?
I would also send Skype history. I call her every saturyday on Skype. That should be okay too, right?

Thanks again for your help man.

Check the online guide.... it will tell u everything that u need to fill out and how u should fill it out.... there is a major portion of the application that ur spouse will need to fill out.... 5-6 forms in total.... u also need all of her original documents ( birth certificate, her degrees, etc)....

No need for a letter.... There's a form that asks u all those questions bout how u met, who arranged it, etc.... attach as much history as possible.... they're not gonna b reading through it so doesn't matter wut language its in.... they just wanna see that u guys have an ongoing relationship.... U will also need to attach all pics from ur wedding as well as honeymoon n n e other outings u've been on... all pics should also be labelled with where it is n who's in the picture....

Lemme know if there are any other questions....

Don't worry about it, CIC is very familiar with arranged marriages and accept that it is common in certain parts of the world. The key thing is did you have a typical sized Indian wedding with all the usual customs followed. They will expect a large, festive wedding I believe.

Do we need to send in originals of her birth certificate and all? I can send in original marriage certificate, but do we need to send in other certificates like birth, degree certificates and all that in original?
Also we had a small wedding, about 50-60 people, i have photos with all of them, is that going to be enough?

for india, photocopies of birth certificate suffices. for marriage certificates, I sent in the photocopies too because they didn't specify it has to be original. But if your certificates are not in english, you'll have to get them translated and notarized. They don't ask for degree certificates up front.

I'd say attach enough wedding photos to show that you did have the 50-60 people you said attended. Show them photos of the traditional ceremonies if you had that. Make sure you attach non wedding photos too. It's quality over quantity. Show them photos of you with her family and her with your family, etc. to show that your friends and families know about the relationship.

The essay part mentioned in the earlier posts falls under the forms IMM5490 and IMM5540 (after all the questions) where they ask you to provide additional information to prove that your relationship is genuine. It's not required to write an essay but a lot of people do. In here, you may want to talk about why your wedding was small because traditional indian weddings are rather big.
