Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen and my husbad is a Swedish citizen we have been married for a year and a half and have been living in Sweden all this time and now we have a two month old baby. I have my PR here in Sweden and in December i have to renew my PR. However we want to move to Canada, Alberta and i have NO idea where to start and i have a million questions :(
I know i have to do the ( Sponsor family application).
My Q's
1) Can i do the application from here in Sweden? How long will it take? what is the fastes way to do the application?

2) will it be a problem if i havent been working for about 2 years???
I havent been working in Canada for 2 years but we have secured jobs in Alberta for when he and i arrive in Alberta.

3) what happens if my husband did time for assault 5 years ago will it effect the application??

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP US.
Lina.

1 - Yes you can do an outland application. Full app is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp
Swedish citizens are processed in London office which is very fast, so normal cases can expect processing time of around 8 months (although if criminality issues, could be longer).

2 - It's fine. There is no minimum income requirement. Just include the job offers in the application, which will show both your ability to support yourselves, and your intention to return to Canada.

3 - It will possibly affect the app. If any sentence/fine was fully completed/paid at least 5 years ago, he can then apply for rehabilitation. Search for rehabilitation on this forum and you'll get more info. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/rehabil.asp

Also assuming you can pass on citizenship, your baby would already be Canadian so you need to apply for citizenship documents.

Thank you very much Rob_TO, now how about my husbands drivers licence can he just translate it to Canadian??

With the link you sent me do I have to complete all forms on part 1 sponsorship forms??
How much will it cost it??
Is it better to get a representative to do the application or is it easy to do?

You need to check Alberta's drivers license requirements, to see if/how you can simply convert a Swedish one to Alberta.Start here: http://www.servicealberta.ca/1671.cfm

You and your husband need to complete all the sponsor, applicant and country-specific forms (parts 1,2,3) and submit everything together first to CPC-Mississauga, and then CPC-M will forward the package to London.

The total cost for application is $1040. Other costs will be for your husband to get police checks and medical exam (costs vary by country).

Most people with normal applications just do the process themselves. However since your husband has a criminality issue, i'm not sure what the effects to the application would be for this, and a lawyer experienced with this might be useful (though they can cost a lot). Others can probably advise better on this.

I am Swedish, currently living in Sthlm waiting for my PR.

I could not translate my license. I needed a certified translator to translate my license (cost about 40 bucks), then take that to the service center, do a written test, and then wait for my G2 drivring exam. Then you have to wait for a year to get full G.

He will need a birth certificate (more of an identity document as us Swedes don't really have birth certificates. He can call Skatteverket to get that, in English, and tell them to add his folks and siblings if any. No charge, arrives in 3-4 days.

Police certificate, use this one and mail in. Takes about a week to get it back. http://polisen.se/Global/www%20och%20Intrapolis/Blanketter/Registerutdrag/RPS-442-1-utlandsandamal-120611pdf.pdf
Cost is 192 SEK, but they are only valid for 3 months, so you can wait with that until just before you send the app in.

But first, you will need to check in on rehabilitation for his assault charge.

Thank you for you answers, it very hard I don't know if his record will effect our application and that's a lot of money if we get denied :( the application is hard to move to Canada but for me when I can to Sweden it was easy.

good cheap immigration lawyer

No such thing, I'm afraid. Even the bad ones are expensive.

There is no point in applying for PR before sorting out this issue. Assault is a serious crime, so it's almost guaranteed to affect the application. As Rob_TO said above, he should look into applying for rehabilitation.

Is there a good cheap immigration lawyer in Calgary? I need help with my situation :(

This office has really good reviews. I went there to get certified copies. All office walls are covered in "thank you" greeting cards from successfully immigrated customers.

Nope, now the bankruptcy has been discharged you will be fine, but the criminal record you need to sort asap. My husband has a criminal record from 21 years a go, it was a bit of pot he got caught with and i am terrified he will get rejected. Offences stay on your record even if the fine is paid and time is served. Check out the links the forum member has given you and sort this before anything else.

Hello I have more questions can you please help me.
So we got the police record and it's been 5years since my hubby criminal situation. Now we will be doing the application but, is it worth doing it still I just don't want to pay all that money and then get denied :(
If he gets denied will we the money refunded? What is the best way to do the application in Sweden or in Canada?? He doesn't want to quit his job and then get denied in Canada then coming back to Sweden and be jobless. If we do the application in Canada will he have to come back for the interview in Sweden?? Can we send in the rehab paper then do the application or does it have to be all together we want to see if he is rehabilitated so we don't spend all that amount of money then get denied. someone please help me on the letter for the rehabilitation what kind of things do I mention?? He has changed a lot since and is more mature now he was young when he got into trouble.

your in box is full .I can't reply to your last message . Anytime i can help

Ya sorry I just cleared it. Thank you very much for all your help. Wish you all the best on your app. Thanks again.

You'll need to do the application from Sweden. Until his rehab application is approved, he's most likely inadmissible to Canada (even as a visitor). As others have said, look into the rehab application first before you even think about leaving Sweden.
