Hi,

My mother lives with me here in Canada on an extended visit visa. I had applied for her sponsorship in the Year 2014 and my application was accepted within the quota of 5000. The date application was received is 13-May-2014. I can now see the application status online. The current status is "Application Received." I have a couple of questions:

1) The current processing time for the Family Class sponsorship when the person to be sponsored lives in Canada is: 17 months (Assessment of the sponsor and the person to be sponsored) + 10 months (Medical, background checks and other verification). A total of 27 months. Does this time start from the date mentioned in the acknowledgement letter which is 13-May-2014 or the date mentioned on the CIC website (working on applications received on XXXXXXX). On 26-Oct-2015, the site mentioned that they started working on application received on the 13-May-2014. So 27 months from 13-May-2014 or 27 months from 09-Nov-2015?

2) When the application is approved what happens next. Do they stamp the passport or just mail the PR card after the medical and the background checks.

Thanks & Best Regards,
NB

1) This is the processing time for spouses and dependent children - not parents. There is no inland process for parent sponsorships. Your mother's application will be sent to her home visa office for processing. The overall process time will be 4+ years.
2) Once the application is approved, your mother will receive the PR visa and will have to "land" (officially become a PR) either by going through immigration at an airport or land border - or by scheduling a landing appointment at a local office. The PR card issuance process won't be triggered until after she lands.

Thanks Scylla,

I checked with the call center and they did confirm that the application for PGP under family class can be applied from within Canada. Moreover, I did receive the acknowledgement from "CPC Mississauga - PGP" confirming the receipt of the application and been accepted as one of the 5000 applications for the 2014 intake year. Do you still believe the application will be sent to her home country for further processing?

NB

All parents application are done as outland apps, no exceptions. You and your mom can both be "in Canada" when you apply, but the app will still be going to your outland visa office. There is no "inland" processing option available for parents apps.

Yes - of course it will be. All parent applications are first reviewed by Mississauga. This is the phase where they assess if the sponsor is qualified to sponsor. Once this stage is completed, the entire application is sent to the local visa office for further processing where the applicant is evaluated. It's a two stage process. The processing times that apply to your mother's case can be found under "person to be sponsored lives outside of Canada" and then "parents and grandparents" on this page: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

Again, there is no "in Canada" sponsorship of parents - only spouses / common law partners. You can see this clearly in the page above since no "in Canada" processing times are provided for parent and grandparent applications.

The call centre either didn't understand your question or gave you bad information (they do this all the time) - or perhaps you misunderstood what they told you.

Again, you're looking at a minimum of 4 years - quite possibly more.

Hi,

Where would be the "local" visa office?

Regards,
We can't answer that unless you tell us where your mother is from.
