Me and my husband paperwork has been in singapore for a year now and still have't heard anything.

our timeline is

July 2011 sent our paper work to Ontario
Oct 3 2011 Singapore received our paperwork and his medical exam

July 2012 me and my husband had to sign a use of representative to singapore

after that heard nothing. I'm getting kinda worried. I hired a lawyer but im starting to think that was a waste of money.

I recall one member here who signed up an authorized representative, and then ALL communications went to them and ONLY them. Better check with that lawyer. We assigned a representative also, but we assigned myself (the sponsor) as a representative in case I needed to call CIC on her behalf.
