Visitor visa but both me & husband are living and working in my home country

Hi all, I’m about to apply for a TRV and wanted to run my case here first to gauge the chances of success and get any tips

BACKGROUND
- I’m Vietnamese, I went to uni and worked in Canada from 2016-2023
- my husband is Vietnamese-Canadian
- husband’s immediate family are all Viet-Canadians (MIL+FIL live primarily in Vietnam and travel back to Canada often)
- we got married in Vietnam and have been living + working in Vietnam since mid 2023
- we have not started our spousal sponsorship papers yet because we really enjoy life here and plan on moving to Canada in a few more years once we have children

PLAN OF TRIP
- to attend my sister-in-law’s university graduation in June with my husband and his family
- travel around BC and CA while there (10-14 days)
- we’ll be staying at her apartment

DOCUMENTS
- my passport + all travel records in the last 10 years (I’ve been to the US in 2018, and several other Asian countries like Taiwan, HK, Korea)
- my employment letter outlining job + salary + approved leave
- bank statement (total of 10k in checking and saving)
- marriage certificate
- husband’s employment letter
- husband’s bank statement
- letter of invitation from SIL
- cover letter explaining the purpose of my trip and the fact that both me + husband have been working and living in Vietnam for 3 years now

How does my case sound? Is there anything else I should include in my application? We live with my in laws in Vietnam so I can also include a proof of residence, I also have an auto investment account with ~7k that I still maintain since leaving Canada - should I include that as well?

So the visa is only for you?

If so, your husband's documents are not required.

10k, is it on your personal account? And can be a very close call.

Investment account is not proof of funds.

Yes visa only for me because he is Canadian, but since we’re travelling together I figured adding his bank statement could help (and since I think 10k is also a close call - all on my personal account btw). And I wanted to establish strong ties to Vietnam by showing that we both have jobs here.

You will be considered on your own merits. Your husband has nothing to do with that. It only triggers red flags. As he is your only strong tie to return and he is coming with you.

Do you have any property?

Assume you complied with all your other previous visa/permit conditions. If so that will go a long way with IRCC. Would attach proof of the wedding invitation and even any extra wedding bookings if that creates a better case. Your case if fairly strong although you never know with IRCC because they trying to reduce the number of people entering Canada who are not genuine visitors so vetting has become more strict. You can even mention your current plans on relocate back to Canada in multiple years once you are ready to raise children and only at that point will you pursue sponsorship.

Interesting, do you not think that including his employment letter in Vietnam would help? My logic is: He’s my tie > he has a job in VN too > he will return > I will return

Too farfetched. Focus on your papers.

I actually have a valid TRV right now but categorized for W-1 (Workers), and since I’m only interested in visiting I want to apply for a new TRV categorized specifically for Visitors. Hopefully this shows IRCC that I’m following the rules closely

I disagree. I think the Canadian spouse having strong ties to Vietnam as well provides additional proof that they don’t plan on moving to Canada. Would suggest including spouse’s employment letter and proof of authorized leave and perhaps explain that you have included sinister information for both spouses to reinforce the fact that you have no current plans to move back to Canada. That said keep proof you include at a reasonable level. Some include a novel with their applications.

Noted with reasonable proof! I think only his employment letter + approved leave will suffice then, I won’t include his bank statement. Do you think 10k is too close of a call? We don’t own property here as we’re living with in laws, would a proof of residence with them make any difference?

10k should probably enough. If your spouse has extra funds I would also include his and include a letter explaining you have access to his savings as weak as his spouse. I would highlight that you will be staying with your family.
