Hi,

We have a US born child. We wish to sponsor him.

Can we bring him to Canada for six months (as he is a US citizen) and then sponsor him

or should we sponsor him from US only.

Will medical exam and police certificates be required for him. He will be 1 year that time.

Thanks a lot.

i believe police certificates are only required for those who are 18 years old and above and medical exam for a 1 year old will only consist of a physical examination/check up with the DMP, where you will also provide immunization records.

Thanks a lot rubyalabar for your reply.

So can we take him to Canada and then start his sponsorship application there.

Thanks.

If you are the PR you need to be in Canada to sponsor. You can take the child on the fact that the child is a US citizen.

here's info on sponsoring your child
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-who.asp

"You can apply as a sponsor if your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, or accompanying dependent children live with you in Canada, even if they do not have legal status in Canada. However, all the other requirements must be met.
You can also apply as a sponsor if your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner, or dependent children live outside Canada, and if they meet all the requirements."

So basically, it says you can sponsor if your child is in Canada or outside. He can go with you to Canada since he is a US citizen and is visa exempt.
You have to reside in Canada to be able to sponsor him.
