Im a naturally born Canadian citizen, married in Canada last summer to my US wife. I am curious the time it takes normally for her and sponsored teen daughter to be admitted. I checked the Canada Immigration page for approx process times, but is there a more general time frame? A year seems pretty long for something pretty basic.

welcome to the waiting game! stage 1 is quoted at 45+ days, but some people get it in 15 days...
For more idea on outland/US application, see the outland thread and the spreadsheet - quite a few people get done before the quoted 11 months. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/us-outland-applicants-thread-t106068.1365.html
Good luck,

Remember the so called "quoted times" on the CIC website are NOT average times. They are maximum times taken to complete 80% of applications.

So if there are 100 applications and 75 of them get done in 4 months and 25 get done in 10 months... the official maximum time for 80% of the applications to get done will show as 10 months. Even though the average was much lower. Kind of a confusing and misleading stat.

Thanks people, those are the answers I'm looking for, realistic. I understand they have a base time , better to have a surprise and done earlier, but least keeps people from getting all panicky and anxious, phoning with questions etc.
We all want our loved ones with us, I can only pray I'm one of the 75 group.
My logical reasoning would be to get my new daughter here for the start of next school year at least, by end of August, along with my wife by my side ASAP as well.

If it's your daughter ( not your new wife's daughter from a previous relationship), then she is already canadian and could come whenever she wants.
If she is not, then she will have to wait for her PR. However, if you don't want her to miss the school beginning, you might be able to have her starting at school even before she gets her PR. In that case, she could come on a tourist visa, and you would need to contact the school and explain the situation - waiting for PR etc. It's up to the school director to allow a child without PR to start studying, and quite a few people on the forum have reported being able to obtain that ( after looking at a few schools...). Your wife could also come on a tourist visa, and wait out the rest of the PR in Canada with you ( quite a few people do that without major problems).
Hopefully you'll be done before that, so it won't be an issue at all, but if it comes to that, there are always solutions!

Good luck,
Sweden

Note i just made up those numbers to illustrate how they're used on the CIC website!!

Apparently all USA applicants now go through CPC-Ottawa. Best to check that thread for actual timelines to expect.

Yes, it's my wifes daughter, a US citizen as well. We don't want to have my wife coming on a tourist visa and not being able to start work, just hanging around is all. She wants to be able to quit her job there, and move here and start again. So will see, but the daughter coming is a good idea, then she can go back and arrive with her mom when documents are issued, not sure how that will work with passports being sent for processing though, but thanks for the comments!

Normally now for visa-exempt you don't actually have to send the passport, you usually have to send only the scan of the passport and they issue the COPR ( confirmation of PR) and send it to you by post. You only need to go to the nearest US border, exit and re-enter Canada to land as a PR, and that's it - so your wife could keep her passport in the US and your daughter in Canada - but since the principal applicant is your wife, they will both need to land at the same time.

Good luck!
