Hi. I would like info on what I can do to sponsor my wife to Canada. I know u need to show that you can support the person via income you make. I am a pastor by vocation, I don't receive a salary, but I do receive financial help from others, where I have gone to speak. which I do few times a month.
I am also native canadian, status indian. was wondering if my Band can help me? has anyone done this? thanks for any replies and help. and can one take just part time work? will that work as well? any minimum or maximum wage requirements.

Your understanding is not quite correct. CIC will take into account both your earnings (full or part time) and the earnings of your wife: she will be allowed to work once she is a PR. Not sure what you mean by 'my Band'. I suspect that its financial assistance will only count if it becomes legally liable to support you and your wife financially; but someone with more knowledge than I may be able to advise you about that. There is no minimum income requirement and you are allowed to be as wealthy as Croesus: CIC's concern is that as a family you will be viable financially.

Indian band, i assume.

CIC just wants to make sure you are not on welfare or other kinds of social assassistance. There is no minimum income required to sponsor a spouse.

Include an explanation of how you and your wife would expect to support each other once she immigrates to Canada. You can explain how your Band currently supports you in your role as Pastor, the speaking engagements that supplement that, and how things would change (if at all) once your wife moves to Canada. The goal is to show you have a solid plan that doesn't depend on government support (e.g., welfare).
