SPONSOR SPOUSE - ALREADY BECAME PERMANENT RESIDENT

Hi fellows.

My girlfriend is coming to Alberta to make an English course at University of Calgary in order to get an academic level, so she can certify in the future her degree in Elementary Education at Alberta Education (Academic English Level is required). During that year, she will be living as a student with me. But in the middle of that year is highly possible that we get marry. We want to make things using the proper channels and fulfilling the law. So, there are a couple of questions I want to share with all of you.

• Can I sponsor her while she is with her study permit? Or does she needs to leave the country?
• If I'm permanent resident, what do I have to do in order to sponsor her?
• Will she be able to work if she gets sponsored?

Regarding income, I don't think that's a problem, currently working as an IT Consultant with a really good salary per year.

If you sponsor her using the inland process, she will be able to work once the application has first stage approval (which is currently taking 13 months). Which method is better in terms of time, by Inland I understand it is applying within Canada and Outland from her country of origin, am I right?

We need the best approach to do this.

It depends on where she is from. In most cases, applying Outland is quicker.

You can file an Outland application even if she is in Canada. It doesn't matter where she is, she just has to indicate that it is an Outland application. She can stay in Canada while her application is being processed, or leave, or leave and come back.

If she applies Inland, she should not leave the country. She risks having her application cancelled.

Thank you so much for your answers, I feel kind of relieved it sounds good that she can stay with me while her outland application is processed. She is from Taiwan, she has a Degree in Elementary Education, a Major in Violin and Piano, and a Post education degree in Musical Education.

We will see how it goes.
