Hi all, I am in a complicated situation at the moment. IRCC is reviewing my application where I had a common law with my ex since 2020 and we ended in 2023 Jan (had a big fight, then she moved out and we were done with the common law relationship).

Now IRCC is requesting me to sign imm5519-e "Statutory Declaration of Severance of Common-law Union" form to show that me and ex have separated and ended this common-law relationship already. My question is that, can I sponsor her later when we get married? Because we are getting in touch now and would like to re-union after the separation, cuz we now have cooled down and know each other is the best person to go with the rest of our lives.(I know it sounds drama... but true LOL)

Yes you can marry and sponsor later on although I would suggest showing a period of stability and even some couples counselling so you don’t have another big fight and break up and you learn some conflict resolution and talk out any issues with a 3rd neutral party that isn’t family before you get married.
