My husband (sponsor) is retired and his main source of income is his pensions such as Military pension, OAS pension, WSIB and Canda pension. I read on one part of the application that if he is in social assistance he may not be eligible to be a sponsor. Just wondering what are the documents or things we can submit to increase our chances getting approve for the application?

He has a good amount of savings in his bank. Will that help increase our chances? And if you could share other tips that can help us increase our chances as well it will really be a big help.

Thank you so much.

Really depends on how much income he receives on a monthly basis and his amount of savings. It also appears as though he is disabled so his costs may also be a factor.

As long as he receives enough to be able to support the applicant, it shouldn't be a problem. As we all know, there is no minimum income requirement (unless that has changed).

No income requirement but must be able to show they can afford to care for themselves and then also be able to care for their spouse.

Are you/will you be in a position to work? Or currently working? (Not clear if you’re currently in Canada.) Showing you have plans to work (looking into how to transfer accreditation, improving English or French skills, researching job postings you’re qualified for etc) could potentially strengthen the application. Yes, the financial obligation is on the sponsor to keep you off social assistance, but I don’t think it would be remiss to show how you could/would contribute financially.

That is less helpful but if you can show your skills and education will lead to being able to secure employment in Canada that will help. I assume you have spent time with your spouse in person preferably over many visits. Are there any other red flags like a significant age difference?

would 20 years age gap be an issue?

Yes that certainly could be a red flag. Assume he may be older than you. How did you meet? How much time have you spent together in person? Over how many visits? Have you ever attempted to immigrate or get a WP/SP to Canada or another country? Are there any other potential red flags?
