Sponsor or Principle Applicant?

I am a Canadian citizen, and I am currently filing application paper work for my wife, who is an American citizen. The cic step by step guide makes it sound confusing. I have no idea if i'm the "sponsor" or the "principle applicant"

As hunks said you are the sponsor. Your wife is the principal applicant (often referred to as PA on this forum)
