Sponsor Daughter

Big question. I just sponsored my husband and he has now landed in Alberta. I had listed his daughters to immigrate at a later time. They would go through Guatemala. How long would it take? Could they also just do a visitor visa and if so how long would that take? Thanks for any information.

You had listed them as non-accompanying? If yes, then he will have to apply to sponsor them. In Guatemala, dependent children take up to 17 months to sponsor, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp#west It could be a bit less because the 17 months are for 80% of applications for spouses and/or children and the children should be a bit faster because there wouldn't be a lot of background checks.

You can try to apply for a visit visa for them but it is not guaranteed that it would be approved. A visit visa is for people who want to visit and if immigration thinks that the plan is for them to stay permanently, they could refuse.

I was thinking the same thing about the visiting. We would just like to be more stable before we bring up his daughters but would love to have them visit him. He is still staying with friends while I finish up surgery and packing at our home in the US. Thanks for the information. And it would probably be fairly quick because they already have their information and have had their medicals done (though I know they would have to have them done again). I think we will just have to save up again.
