Hi, I am looking some advice on my options to sponsor my child who will be born in the UK. I am a permanent resident currently living in the UK. I understand as I am PR I cant sponsor while outside of Canada. So I am hoping my child can join us on a temporary basis while we finalise the sponsorship. Has anyone gone through this or have any suggestions on how I go about it all? And the fees entailed. The most straight forward option would be to have the baby in Canada but we just are not in that position at the moment. Thanks in advance.

Hi

What nationality will the child have?

Do we need to apply for anything to allow them to come as a visitor? A lawyer advised me we would. How long can my child stay for? 6 months? Thanks

Your child needs an eTA but that is super simple. Visitor status is generally 6 months. You can extend the visitor status before the 6 months is up.

Ok so to obtain the initial 6 months we dont physically have to do anything? Sorry just want to be sure. Do you know approximate time frame and cost involved for sponsoring? A lawyer priced me 8000 in all.

No, you don't have to do anything.

Skip the lawyer. It costs $150 to IRCC, plus a few hundred for the medical and incidentals like mailing.

Great thanks for all your input!! Straight forward process really. I was thinking it would be alot more $$$ sorry just one more thing. Do you have an idea of time frame? And you can start process at any time once I am physically in Canada?

$8000 to sponsor a dependent. Those must be some pretty impressive billable hours. Craziness.

Yeah, lawyers like to charge a lot for pretty much doing nothing.

Expect about 6 months.

Yes, as soon as you are actually in Canada.
