Hi there,

I have a question. I am a canadian citizen, single, never been married and would like to sponsor my brother who is also single and currently working in Dubai. What are the steps and will I be allowed to sponsor?

Please help.

Thank you.

Are one of both of your parents still alive?

Above 18?, no + are folks still alive?

thanks for your reply. only one of my parents is alive, my mom. she had a stroke and she's also diabetic. she's doesn't want to come to live here. my brother is 35 years old and i don't have a relative here as well.

Unfortunately you can't sponsor your brother since your mother is still alive (it doesn't matter that she doesn't want to come to Canada). If your brother wants to immigrate to Canada he will have to qualify independently.

If you are living in Saskatchewan or Manitoba, you may be able to sponsor him under PNP family stream if both of you qualify. Otherwise, maybe you can help get him a job offer to help him apply by himself.

FYI - Manitoba suspended its family sponsorship stream a few years ago (2010?). The province now has two streams remaining:

- Currently working in Manitoba
- Skilled workers overseas

To qualify under the family sponsorship program for Saskatchewan, her brother will need a job offer in Canada:

Manitoba may not call it family stream any more but they still allow a close relative to support an application. You can see this here: http://www.immigratemanitoba.com/how-to-immigrate/apply/manitoba-support/

You can calculate your points for the Manitoba skilled worker program here: http://www.immigratemanitoba.com/asset_library/2013/05/manitoba-immigration-mpnp-points-worksheet-interactive.pdf A close relative gives you 20 points out of 100.

SK also requires the applicant to have skill level A or B plus a skilled job offer plus other requirements, see http://www.saskimmigrationcanada.ca/family-referral

These are just some of the specific requirements of these programs which also include the sponsor to have lived in the province for at least one year before applying.
